Mumbai: Covid testing will be increased in Mumbai, as the city's test positivity rate has risen to 6%, according to the civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, or BMC. It has asked officials to increase testing "on a war footing" right away. It has also been requested that testing labs be proactive and adequately staffed.
"Daily new cases have surged considerably in Mumbai, and with monsoon approaching, we will now expect a rapid spike in symptomatic patients," the statement warned.
The BMC has also requested that the immunization drive for children aged 12 to 18 years, as well as booster doses, be pushed aggressively. The local government has requested that gigantic field hospitals be kept appropriately manned and on alert now, fearing another high surge in symptomatic patients.
In addition, private hospitals have been instructed to be on high alert. Other preparatory measures have been required, including an assessment of the status of ward war rooms to verify that they are properly equipped with staff, medical teams, and ambulances.
If the number of people admitted to hospitals rises in the following days, the Malad jumbo hospital will be used first.
