An accident in Telangana's Kamareddy district killed at least nine people and severely injured 17 others. On Sunday evening, a lorry and a minivan collided head-on in Hasanpally, district.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow for the accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for each of the deceased's next of kin. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), anyone wounded in the accident would be compensated with 50,000.
"Distressed by the loss of lives due to an accident in Kamareddy district, Telangana. Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers with the injured. 2 lakh each from Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would be given to the next of kin of the deceased. The injured would be given 50,000: PM Modi," the statement by the PMO said.
The occupants of the minivan were returning from a function in Yellareddy when the accident occurred at the Hassanpalli Gate in the Nizamsagar zone, according to reports. The lorry's driver allegedly took the wrong side of the road and collided with a little truck traveling from the opposite direction, killing two persons on the spot and injuring others.
Anjavva (35 years), Veeramani (35 years), Lachavva (60 years), Sayavva (38 years), Sailu (35 years), Ellaiah (53 years), Poshaiah (60 years), Gangavva (45 years), and Veeravva were among the deceased (70 years).
Superintendent of Police Kamareddy Srinivas Reddy stated that a complaint had been filed and that the accused lorry driver had been identified. "We will nab him soon," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
