The travel sector has praised the changes to the travel testing guidelines announced yesterday, predicting a rise in vacation reservations in the coming weeks.

Boris Johnson said yesterday that for fully vaccinated travelers and those under the age of 18, both pre-departure Covid testing and the necessity for PCR tests will be eliminated.

Derek Jones, the CEO of Kuoni's parent business Der Touristik UK, predicts that travel will be "90% back by the end of spring."

Those arriving in the UK after 4 a.m. tomorrow, January 7th, will no longer be required to provide a negative PCR or antigen test result, nor will they be required to self-isolate while awaiting the results of their day two test.

Then, starting at 4 a.m. on Sunday, January 9th, double-jabbed travelers and those under the age of 18 will be eligible to employ lateral flow (antigen) tests instead of the more costly PCRs.

Meanwhile, the Scottish and Northern Irish administrations have yet to say whether they would follow England's lead in loosening testing regulations.

Eluned Morgan, Wales' health and social services minister, revealed yesterday that she had "reluctantly consented" to the proposals.
