PM Modi will conduct a Covid-19 review meeting on Thursday.

According to the news agency ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will examine the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) situation in the country on Thursday in the aftermath of the spread of Omicron. Up to this point, more than 200 people have been infected with the novel Sars-CoV-2 virus type in the United States.

These kinds of review sessions with the Prime Minister have been placed in the past as well. In the most recent review meeting, held at the end of November, Prime Minister Modi requested that officials consider proposals to loosen restrictions on overseas travel in light of worldwide concern over the presence of the radioactive element Omicron, which was detected in South Africa.

With the introduction of the new variation, the Prime Minister instructed his personnel to be "pro-active."

Before the opening of the winter session of Parliament, PM Modi had advised citizens to keep attentive. He said the government's priority is the good health of the countrymen and announced the extension of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to distribute free grains and the plan through March 2022.

India’s Omicron tally reached 213 on Wednesday, according to the figures given by the Union health ministry. It claimed the national capital Delhi currently tops the count with 57 instances, followed by Maharashtra, which has reported 54 cases of the new type so far.

The health ministry had on Tuesday warned states and union territories about the new Covid-19 type. It asserted that based on existing scientific information, Omicron is at least three times more transmissible than the Delta version.

The ministry also said that increased foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making, and tight and timely containment action is essential at the municipal and district level.

India, meanwhile, recorded 6,317 additional Covid-19 cases and 318 fatalities in the previous 24 hours, the health ministry said on Wednesday. The country's active caseload now stands at 78,190, the lowest in 575 days.

As many as 318 persons perished to the virus illness in the previous 24 hours, the ministry further revealed.
