Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched women-centric programs in the Uttar Pradesh district of Prayagraj on Tuesday, transferring Rs 1000 crore into the bank accounts of different Self Help Groups (SHGs). He also distributed funds to almost one lakh participants of the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme, which assists girls. 

PM Modi stated in his opening remarks at the event that Prayagraj has been the site of the confluence of Mother Ganga-Yamuna-Saraswati for thousands of years, and that the pilgrimage city is now seeing a "beautiful confluence of women strength."

The prime minister stated that the public benefit from direct money transfers made possible by Bank Sakhis. He emphasized that the entire country is watching the work being done in Uttar Pradesh to empower women.

"The majority of people who have benefited are girls who did not have accounts before recently. However, they now have the power of digital banking... Now, the girls of Uttar Pradesh have determined that they would not allow the past regimes to retake power "PM said to the audience.

Speaking on patriarchy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that for decades, land and property were retained in the names of male members of the family, but the Bharatiya Janata Party government is now "removing the abnormality."

"The houses being built under the PM Awas Yojna are named after women. In UP, 30 lakh dwellings have been distributed, with 25 lakh of them going to women."

In the midst of the Centre's efforts to pass legislation raising the minimum marriage age for women to 21, PM Modi stated that girls desire to seek higher education in order to advance and have equal possibilities.
