Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched women-centric programs in the Uttar Pradesh district of Prayagraj on Tuesday, transferring Rs 1000 crore into the bank accounts of different Self Help Groups (SHGs). He also distributed funds to almost one lakh participants of the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Scheme, which assists girls.
PM Modi stated in his opening remarks at the event that Prayagraj has been the site of the confluence of Mother Ganga-Yamuna-Saraswati for thousands of years, and that the pilgrimage city is now seeing a "beautiful confluence of women strength."
The prime minister stated that the public benefit from direct money transfers made possible by Bank Sakhis. He emphasized that the entire country is watching the work being done in Uttar Pradesh to empower women.
