Omicron positive Vashi teen drove from Hyd to Mumbai to avoid quarantine

Navi Mumbai is an abbreviation for Navi Mumbai On December 20, a 19-year-old Vashi resident who returned from Kenya, one of the high-risk nations, and landed at Hyderabad airport tested positive for the Omicron subtype.

He traveled to Mumbai through the road to avoid quarantine at the Mumbai airport, as per the civic officials. The patient is asymptomatic and is at present admitted to MGM Hospital in Sanpada. The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is testing all the inhabitants in his societies and tracing his journey from Hyderabad to Mumbai.

The state till Monday had 54 Omicron instances, out of which two were from Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation in the Thane area.

Dr. Pramod Patil, medical health officer, stated, “The patient is a 19-year-old, who had flown from Kenya to Hyderabad. His RT-PCR was done in Hyderabad airport, however, he drove to Mumbai by road in a cab instead of taking a flight. His report came positive on the 18th. He went to Nanavati Hospital and submitted a repeat swab. On Sunday, his mother got a call from Hyderabad officials stating the kid is Omicron positive,”

All of his close contacts' antigen tests came back negative, and the RT-PCR results are still pending. His mother and brother are also separated in separate rooms. For Omicron patients, a dedicated isolation unit has been established at MGM, Sanpada.

The four-story building where he lives in Sector 14, Vashi has four flats on each floor and has been shut for ten days. Around 450 people live in the patient's social, and 350 have been tested so far, all of which are negative. People who had gone out to work will be examined again later in the evening, according to NMMC officials.

"Neither Hyderabad officials nor the patient told the corporation." To double-check, the patient went to Nanavati Hospital and took a test, where he was confirmed to be positive once more. On December 20, Hyderabad officials contacted the patient's relatives and notified them that he tested positive for Omicron. "Somehow, the news spread throughout the area, and someone informed the corporation over an anonymous phone," stated one of the NMMC's health department officials.

"The Hyderabad officials stated that they had no idea where the patient was and had finally gotten through to him after three days of trying to contact him." After receiving his Omicron report, we quickly segregated him and his family members. We are now attempting to track down the locations he visited over the course of several days while traveling to Navi Mumbai by notifying the appropriate states," the officer added.

Meanwhile, a representative for GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd, where the patient departed without the airport's knowledge, stated, "The airport's role is just to give the area to do the tests." The government is in charge of the entire testing and isolation procedure. Until December 18, the protocol was to let patients go after their RT-PCR test and then call them with the results. The methodology has now been altered, and the person being tested is not permitted to leave until the results are known. While everyone from high-risk countries is tested. The testing authority chooses people from different countries at random."
