Every year on December 23, India commemorates the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the country's fifth prime minister. The holiday is known as 'Kisan Diwas' in India. After a year-long protest, farmers, primarily from Punjab and Haryana, called off their demonstration following the government's repeal of three central laws, the day is observed this year on May 1.

It has been National Farmers Day in India since 2001 when Singh's birthday was commemorated.

"The anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji's birth is commemorated as 'Farmer's Day' in every state and union territory in India. All of the farmers deserve heartfelt congratulations. Congratulations to the farmers who, through their laborious efforts, have produced crops in the field and brought happiness to the country. The government of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi is completely committed to the welfare of farmers "On this occasion, Rajnath Singh, the Union Defence Minister, posted a message on Twitter.

Farmers, on the other hand, have vowed to continue their agitation, with farmer leader Rakesh Tikait promising to raise issues pertaining to farmers with the government at the Centre.

Kisan Diwas is a national holiday celebrated in India.

The farmers and their contributions to the country are recognised on this day. In recognition of his contributions to India's agricultural reforms, the former prime minister was awarded the honour.

As a result of his efforts to improve the living conditions of farmers and the growth of agriculture throughout the country, Singh has been dubbed "Champion of India's Peasants."

He has also written numerous books on the subject of farmer upliftment. For example, 'Abolition of Zamindari', 'Cooperative Farming X', and the "Prevention of Division of Holdings Below a Certain Minimum" are some of the more notable titles.

Agriculture has a significant role in the Indian economy.

Almost half of India's rural families have only rudimentary ties to the agricultural sector. There are 93.1 million agricultural families in rural India, according to the Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) conducted this year.

An agricultural household is defined as one that produced field or horticultural crops, animals, or other specified agricultural goods worth more than 4,000 dollars in the 365 days preceding the survey and included a member who was self-employed in agriculture during that time period.
