The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is looking into the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist S K Sreenivasan in Kerala's Palakkad, arrested fire and rescue service officer B Jishad on Tuesday.
According to the SIT, Jishad has been a member of the Popular Front of India (PFI) since 2008. He was also allegedly involved in the November murder of another RSS worker, Sanjith. According to the SIT, Jishad joined the fire and rescue service, which has now suspended him, in 2017 but has continued his association with PFI.
According to investigators, Jishad allegedly helped PFI in preparing a list of possible targets and closely monitored Sreenivasan's movements on the day of his murder.
The SIT would also look into Jishad's possible participation in other crimes, according to Palakkad police superintendent R Viswanadh. So far, 22 persons have been arrested in relation to the Sreenivasan murder investigation.
On April 15, RSS workers allegedly hacked M Subair, a leader of the Social Democratic Party of India, the PFI's political wing, to death. The next day, Sreenivasan was murdered in an apparent retaliatory attack.
In February, the Kerala Police terminated PK Anas after he allegedly leaked the personal information of over 200 RSS workers in the Idukki and Kottayam districts to the PFI.
