On Friday, the Karnataka government announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Sanjeevini - KSRLPS (Karnataka State Rural Livelihood Promotion Society) and e-commerce firm Meesho to empower 2,500 self-help groups in the state.

Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai attended the event and showed his complete faith in the rural women entrepreneurs in the state. He took to social media and wrote “Happy to share that an MoU between @KarnatakaKsrlps& @Meesho_Official for the empowerment of 2500 self-help groups in the state was signed. The world will know the women's 'potential' from Karnataka. (Sic)”

Bommai further stated that schemes for women's self-employment will be identified in each gramme panchayat and asked that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) be prepared shortly. He also promised assistance from the Karnataka government in this regard. "With the support of the Government of India, the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Livelihood is already providing self-employment assistance to self-help organisations in Karnataka via the 'Elevate Scheme.' These programmes must now be scaled up and handled at the micro level," Bommai noted.

The chief minister stated that he believes this MoU would make a significant difference in the lives of thousands of women across the state by enabling them to be self-sufficient and contribute to the state's economy.

Meesho is an e-commerce platform based in Bengaluru that allows small businesses and individuals to sell and market their products through social networking platforms. Previously, the company collaborated with Telangana's incubator 'We Hub' to promote women's entrepreneurship in Telangana.
