After landing in Goa today, four travellers from the United Kingdom tested positive for COVID-19, according to state Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
The Goa government has established up a special facility at a primary health centre (PHC) in Cansaulim, South Goa district, where COVID-19 patients are housed while their samples are submitted for genome sequencing to determine if they are infected with the new form.
So yet, no cases of the Omicron form have been documented in Goa.
Mr Rane stated in a tweet today, "On arrival, all travellers arriving from the United Kingdom were tested. Four people have tested positive for the virus. PHC Cansaulim was able to isolate them." The passengers had come through a government-run airline called the Vande Bharat Mission (VBM). In a tweet, the Goa Airport stated, "The 103rd VBM flight landed at Goa Airport this morning from London @HeathrowAirport. Upon arrival, international passengers are subjected to thermal scanning and must fulfil departure requirements. Team Goa resolved to ensure the passengers arrived safely and without incident." Goa recorded 27 new instances of coronavirus on Monday, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 1,79,769, while the number of fatalities remained steady at 3,485, according to an official.
