In a recent Twitter debate with Grammy-winning artist Cardi B, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey stated on Tuesday that Bitcoin will eventually replace the US dollar as a reserve currency. Cardi B inquired on Twitter about whether a cryptocurrency will eventually replace the US dollar, to which Dorsey responded, "Yes, Bitcoin will."
The Twitter exchange between Cardi B and the tech millionaire regarding cryptocurrencies replacing the dollar drew tremendous comments on the social media site. Dogecoin co-founder Billy Markus created a joke on how Dogecoin is more stable than the US currency. While Bitcoin investor Dennis Porter pointed out that “such a discourse was actually inevitable.”
Dorsey departed Twitter last month to work on fintech business Block, formerly known as Square—making Parag Agrawal, the new CEO of Twitter, who is now highly involved in decentralized projects in the company.
Earlier, in October, Dorsey claimed that Block is trying to establish a bitcoin mining system based on custom silicon and open source for people as well as enterprises. This would add to Square’s other bitcoin-focused efforts include a firm to establish an open developer platform, as well as a hardware wallet for the cryptocurrency.
“If we do this, we’d follow our hardware wallet model: create in the open in partnership with the community,” Dorsey stated in a tweet. A team led by Square’s hardware lead, Jesse Dorogusker, will study requisites for Square to take on the project to construct a bitcoin mining machine.
Dorsey is a Bitcoin investor. His affinity for cryptocurrencies dates back to 2017 when he started pushing Bitcoin as the king coin. When the crypto market fell in 2018, Dorsey seemed unmoved, declaring Bitcoin the future world currency, despite the digital currency being at its lowest point in several years. In March 2019, Dorsey has revealed that he spends several thousand dollars each week to acquire Bitcoin.
Endorsing blockchain technology for transparency in payment, Dorsey has just issued the whitepaper of its decentralized Bitcoin exchange proposal— tbDEX. Dorsey has reaffirmed to investors that Bitcoin will be a “big part” of the company’s future.
