Officials said on Friday that the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) arrested a man from Bengaluru central train station with 16 kg of heroin worth 112 crores at the international market.

According to DRI officials, the suspect concealed drugs in a false cavity inside his suitcase.

According to a DRI statement, the man arrived in Bengaluru from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and was about to board a train to Delhi when he was intercepted by DRI officials.

According to officials, the man evaded checks and customs when he arrived at Bengaluru airport from Ethiopia.

According to police, the suspect, a 35-year-old Tamil Nadu man, used to move his base between the Karnataka and Kerala borders. He had altered his bag to include a false cavity for smuggling reasons. The drug was concealed inside his suitcase in two 8-kg pouches.

Officials said he smuggled the drug into the nation from Ethiopia and was on his way to Delhi to distribute it.

The statement added that in 2021-22, the DRI has seized 3,463 kg of heroin, 208 kg of pseudoephedrine and 321 kg of cocaine, together valued at 19,800 crores in the international market.
