Following a surge in demand, India's newest airline, Akasa Air, plans to run daily flights between Bengaluru and Mumbai. Previously, the newly created airline flew from Bengaluru to Kochi. The budget carrier said on Twitter, "Flying twice daily between #Bengaluru and #Mumbai, starting today!" "We are gradually expanding our network and connecting more cities."
Akasa Air now operates from Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, and Mumbai, with plans to expand its network to all cities in the country.
On August 7, this year, the first Akasa Air flight between Mumbai and Ahmedabad took off. It also began operations from Bengaluru to Kochi on August 12. The new airline services between Bengaluru and Mumbai are intended to make it easier for regular travellers to travel between the financial and IT capitals.
Previously, the airline company stated that it will shortly begin commercial flights with two new Boeing 737 Max aircraft. One of the planes has already been delivered, while the other is scheduled to arrive later this month. The airline is also apparently ordering more planes to provide flights between multiple cities.
Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, an ace investor who recently died after a period of bad health, backed Akasa Air. Jhunjhunwala's dream project, the airline was supposed to be, and he even visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few months before the inauguration. The airline received its Air Operator Certificate from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in July of this year.
