"The shaking lasted around 20 seconds, with the ground shifting left and right," an AFP correspondent in Taipei said.

The earthquake struck 124 kilometres south-southeast of Taipei, Taiwan, at roughly 3.16 p.m. IST, according to India's National Center for Seismology.
