According to the district health administration, Ghaziabad is failing to vaccinate older citizens, whose targeted immunization coverage is now at almost 69 percent.

The Uttar Pradesh government, according to health department officials, has given them a "renewed aim" of vaccinating almost 2,702,167 recipients with the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccinations by December 31 this year.
According to official estimates, the target number of senior citizens — individuals over the age of 60 — vaccinated with the first dosage is 326,787, but the health department has only provided 224,435 doses (68.67 percent) as of Monday (December 20) morning. Vaccination coverage for the other age categories is strong, ranging between 95 and 98 percent — 1,755,321 (96.81 percent) doses in the 18-45 age group against a target of 1,813,074; and 510,102 (99.26 percent) doses in the 45+ age group against a target of 513,903 to date.

"Right now, we are providing about 10,000 initial doses every day at 250 immunization centers located throughout the district... The vaccine coverage for elderly adults is still trailing, but we are working hard to meet the state government's aim of completing the first dose immunization by the deadline of December 31, 2021, and it is probable that we will do so on time. "Health officials have been continually following up with the left-out recipients," said Dr Neeraj Aggarwal, the district's nodal officer for Covid-19 vaccine.
