Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has responded to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's letter requesting more investments from the company in his hometown of Nagpur.
"Our teams will definitely be in touch with the Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VEDC) members as we evaluate new investment opportunities across the (Tata) Group," Chandrasekaran wrote to Gadkari on October 19.
This was in response to Gadkari's letter to him on October 7, which was made public on October 29, following Maharashtra's loss of yet another mega project to neighboring Gujarat.
Gadkari stated that Tata group companies involved in industries like steel, auto, consumer products, IT services, and aviation might opt to invest in Nagpur, noting factors such as infrastructure, land availability, and connectivity.
Gadkari stated that the Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN) SEZ and the non-SEZ area have over 3,000 acres of land and that several companies have already established operations in the area.
Chandrasekaran replied that he had seen the information in the letter on the various business opportunities in Nagpur for the Tata Group and had taken notice of the availability of both SEZ and non-SEZ land.
Following his meeting with VEDC, Gadkari sent the letter, introducing it as a think-tank ready to meet representatives of the Tata Group.
