On Tuesday, Muslim leaders in Karnataka met with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to discuss a ban on hijab at state-run educational institutions.

One of the group's leaders, UT Khader of the Congress, told news agency ANI that the delegation asked the chief minister to disburse monies for the welfare of all minority populations equitably.

"The minority welfare department's budget for education and empowerment programs has been slashed in the last two years. Students are suffering, according to Khader.

Meanwhile, other pupils have refused to take their class 10 preparation exams after being told that they must remove their headscarf before entering the school.

The incident occurred at Shivamogga's Karnataka Public School. "Before entering the school, I was requested to remove my hijab. I'm not capable of doing it, so I've decided not to take the exam "ANI quoted Hina Kausar, a student at the institution, as saying.

A parent of a pupil at a government Urdu school in Udupi's Pakirnagar region stated she would not take her daughter to school because of the abrupt hijab ban.

"After a school-wide ban on the hijab, I'm not sending her to school. Many members of our family have already attended this school while wearing hijab. Why has there been such a drastic change in the rules?" said the parent.

A conference of parents and teachers is being held in the Udupi district, according to the tehsildar.

In regions like Udupi, Bengaluru, and Dakshina Kannada, high schools reopened on Monday despite prohibitory orders in some sensitive locations. All sensitive sites in these districts are covered by Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The hijab controversy erupted earlier this month when several educational institutions in the state forbade Muslim girls from wearing the headscarf hijab. The topic has now made headlines across the country and even gained international interest, with five Assembly elections underway and politicians entering the discourse.

The demonstrations have spread to numerous colleges around the state and beyond, with some reporting episodes of violence and stone-pelting. After that, the state's BJP government decided to close all high schools and colleges for a few days. In the high court, a hearing is currently taking place.
