Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued an orange signal for the Maharashtra capital as relentless rain lashed the city.
The meteorological service has forecast moderate to heavy rain across the city and suburbs, with the chance of extremely severe rainfall in isolated areas over the next 24 hours. Mumbai is therefore set to see another wet day.
The local trains were running on schedule, according to Central Railway and Western Railway officials, while several commuters complained the suburban services were a touch behind schedule.
According to a civic official, the island city (south Mumbai) reported an average of 107 mm of rainfall during the course of the previous day, compared to 172 mm and 152 mm in the eastern and western suburbs.

Mumbai's Powai Lake has been overflowing since Tuesday night due to the recent torrential rainfall, according to a civic official. The lake began overflowing at 6:15 p.m. and has a storage capacity of 545 crore litres. "However, only industrial uses can use the lake's non-potable water. On June 12 of previous year, it had flown over. The official added that the catchment area is 6.61 square kilometres, while the lake's water area is approximately 2.23 square kilometres when it is full.
