CM Bommai congratulates Padma award recipients from Karnataka

Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai congratulated the Padma award recipients who conferred the awards on Wednesday at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. A total of seven people from Karnataka bagged Padma awards this year.

Veteran archaeologist S Subbaraman received the Padma Shri for his contribution in the field of Archaeology. He was the one who led conservation projects at Ajanta Murals, Buddha statues in Bamiyan, Brihadeeshwara temple and churches of old Goa. Basavaraj Bommai wrote, “Proud Kannadiga Dr. Senior Archaeologist who researches the legendary places embedded in the pages of history and does a great job of introducing them to the next generation. The award of Padma Shri to Subbaraman is a sign of respect for our land.”

The Tamate folk instrument artist Nadoja P Munivenkatappa also received Padma Shri for preserving and promoting the traditional hand-drum instrument. Tamate folk instrument is very popular among the people of old Mysuru region in Karnataka. In a tweet, Bommai wrote, “Hearty congratulations to Pindi Papanahalli Munivenkatappa of Chikkaballapur, the country's proud Tamate artist, who has been awarded the Padma Shri award.”

Former Karnataka CM SM Krishna, on Wednesday received Padma Vibhushan for his contribution in the field of Public Affairs. SM Krishna has served in various positions including as the chief minister of Karnataka, deputy chief minister, union minister, governor and speaker of the legislative assembly.

Apart from Munivenkatappa, S Subbaram and SM Krishna, SL Bhyrappa in the field of Literature and Education, Khadarvali Dudekula in the field of Science and Engineering, Sudha Murthy in the field of public work, folk dancer Rani Machiah and Shah Ahmed Quadri are on the list of Padma awards for 2023 from Karnataka.
